Austin sees 2 homicides in 1 day

Austin saw two separate homicides on Friday, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.

An 8-year-old girl was strangled to death in the 5200 block of West Adams Street, police said. Meanwhile, a 24-year-old man was stabbed to death in the 700 block of Central Avenue, according to officials.

Austin has logged 17 homicides so far this year, including four deaths this month. The West Side community area recorded 37 homicides last year, according to RedEye data.

Citywide, gunshot homicides were logged in the last week in Chicago Lawn, Humboldt Park, North Lawndale, Rogers Park, South Deering, South Shore and West Englewood, RedEye determined.

Thirty homicides have been recorded so far this month. Forty-nine homicides were logged in July 2012, according to RedEye data.

20 homicides in first week of July

Auburn Gresham, Austin, East Garfield Park and Roseland have each recorded two homicides this month, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.

In Auburn Gresham, a 39-year-old man was shot to death Wednesday in the 8700 block of South Throop Street, police said. Seven days earlier, a 26-year-old man was fatally shot in the 8700 block of South Loomis Street, according to officials.

In Roseland, a 40-year-old woman was beaten to death Saturday in the 10000 block of South Princeton Avenue, police said. One day earlier, a 64-year-old woman was stabbed to death in the 10800 block of South Calumet Avenue, according to officials.

In East Garfield Park, a 48-year-old man was shot to death Saturday in the 2800 block of West Flournoy Street, police said. Two days earlier, a 21-year-old man was fatally shot in the 600 block of South Francisco Avenue, according to officials.

In Austin, a 14-year-old boy was shot to death July 2 in the 5000 block of West North Avenue, police said. That same day, a 19-year-old man was fatally shot in the 4800 block of West Potomac Avenue, according to officials.

Citywide, gunshot homicides have been recorded in the last week in Gage Park, Greater Grand Crossing, Humboldt Park, the Near West Side, New City, North Lawndale, Rogers Park, South Shore, West Englewood, West Garfield Park and Woodlawn, RedEye determined.

Twenty-one homicides have been logged so far this month. Forty-nine homicides were recorded in July 2012, according to RedEye data.

New City, South Shore see 3 homicides

New City and South Shore each saw three homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.

In New City, a 5-year-old boy and 31-year-old woman were shot to death Friday in the 5300 block of South Winchester Avenue, police said. One day earlier, a 29-year-old man was stabbed to death in the 1000 block of West Garfield Boulevard, according to officials.

In South Shore, a 24-year-old man was fatally shot Sunday in the 2400 block of East 75th Street, police said. On Friday, a 16-year-old boy was shot to death in the 7500 block of South Kingston Avenue, according to officials.

Two days earlier, an 18-year-old man was fatally shot in the 7500 block of South Merrill Avenue, police said.

Meanwhile, Washington Heights saw two homicides this week.

A 23-year-old man was fatally shot Tuesday in the 9900 block of South Halsted Street, police said. One day earlier, an 18-year-old man was shot to death in the 10400 block of South Green Street, according to officials.

Citywide, gunshot homicides were logged in the last week in Englewood, West Lawn and West Pullman, RedEye determined.

June ended this week with 43 homicides, down from 47 homicides in June 2012, RedEye found.

Two homicides have been logged so far this month. Forty-nine homicides were recorded in July 2012, according to RedEye data.

3 homicides on Chicago’s Northwest Side

The Northwest Side saw three homicides in the last week, according to a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data.

On Monday, a 24-year-old woman was stabbed to death in the 6500 block of West Addison Street in Dunning, police said.

On Friday, a 36-year-old man was fatally shot in the 2800 block of North Spaulding Avenue in Avondale, according to officials.

That same day, a 21-year-old man was shot to death in the 2900 block of North Kilpatrick Avenue in Belmont Cragin, police said.

This is Dunning’s first homicide of the year, while Avondale and Belmont Cragin have each recorded two homicides in 2013, according to RedEye data.

Meanwhile, South Shore logged two homicides this week. On Wednesday, a 23-year-old man was fatally shot in the 7500 block of South Yates Boulevard, police said. Three days earlier, a 22-year-old man was shot to death in the 1500 block of East 76th Place, according to officials.

Citywide, gunshot homicides have been logged in the last week in Greater Grand Crossing, McKinley Park, the Near North Side, South Chicago and West Garfield Park, RedEye determined.

Thirty-four homicides have been recorded so far in June. Forty-seven homicides were logged in June 2012, RedEye found.

Englewood, South Lawndale see 2 homicides

Englewood and South Lawndale each recorded two homicides in the last week, according to a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data.

In Englewood, a 19-year-old man was shot to death Sunday in the 7400 block of South Parnell Avenue, police said. Three days earlier, a 19-year-old man was fatally shot in the 6400 block of South Normal Avenue, according to officials.

In South Lawndale, an 18-year-old man was shot to death Sunday in the 4000 block of West 31st Street, police said. One day earlier, a 21-year-old man was fatally shot in the 2600 block of South Ridgeway Avenue, according to officials.

Citywide, gunshot homicides were logged in the last week in Austin, Chicago Lawn, Greater Grand Crossing, Humboldt Park, West Garfield Park and West Town, according to police information.

On Sunday, a 48-year-old man was found impaled to death on a fence post in the 9100 block of South Greenwood Avenue in Burnside, police said. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death a homicide.

Twenty-four homicides have been logged so far in June. Forty-seven homicides were recorded in June 2012, RedEye found.
